United Nations is planning a world lottery to collect about 500 million dollars per year, in order to fight against the extreme hunger that is threatening the life of 146 little children in the poorest African, Asian and Latin American countries

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) wants to sell €1 lottery tickets, starting in Europe next year. France and Spain have acceded to sell the tickets, according to Cecile Sportis, director of WFP. By scrapping the surface of the ticket, the player will find a cash prize or a commitment to support one of the UN’s programs.

In a recent study, United Nation’s Children Fund (Unicef) has recently published that almost a quarter of all under five-year-olds in the developing countries are suffering from malnutrition, which limits their resistance to illnesses, causing death to 5.6 million children per year.

“Just a few things have more impact than food in the nutrition of a child to survive, learn effectively and escape from a life in poverty”, said Ann Veneman, executive director of Unicef.
